Subway BluesMy way of working is instinctive and reactive. Sometimes something catches my eye and I have a split second to lift the camera, power it on, shoot from the hip and hope Ive caught it. Subway Blues was one of those moments, late at night on the New York subway. A man in a turquoise suit with a glowing yellow hat moved through the platform like a ghost. The blur, the colour, the contrast, it all came together in an instant, suggesting a figure caught

it reimagines everyday rituals as sacred rites: crisps become offerings

which evoke digital infrastructure

creating something new

the made and the found

“Your Place in the Family of Things” takes its’ title from a Mary Oliver poem and its figures reference a drawing by Egon Schiele

sanded and revised

hung on the wall without gap

What holds this figure isn’t peace or wellness

the pearls have been replaced by the aptly named mint imperial

all pointing toward some end

Through these processes my work shifts the pictorial plane away from a knowable landscape towards a vague terrain that re-frames our relationship to the land
