A Billingsley Mansfield floral-painted W*** (probably Whitehead) bough pot c1799Description. A superb piece, wonderfully decorated by William Billingsley, almost certainly when he was operating from Mansfield, in the period 17991802. The piece bears the impressed mark of the enigmatic W*** factory. It is thought (but not known for certain) that that factory was operated by the Whitehead family Whitehead senior having three sons hence the three stars. Condition. The cover is missing. although towards the end of the 18th century creamware tended to become much more lightly coloured
